The avid videogamer, as portrayed by the media, is either super skinny with nerdy specs or a coach potato that inhales more chips than air.
Well, if you find yourself resembling more of the latter, maybe it’s time to try these healthier alternatives to potato chips.
1. Apple Chips

These are a fantastic substitute for potato chips. They’re naturally crispy, sweet, flavourful and without the excess sodium and oil. Additionally, they also fill you up with fibre and vitamin C as well.
You can easily bake it at home too. There are many recipes that you can find if you want to try a hand at making your own healthy snacks. Essentially, all you need to do is boil apples in sugar water, cut them up, and marinate them in lemon juice and baking them at high heats.
2. Taro Chips

Taro chips are made from the roots of the yam tree. It tastes just like its cousin, the potato, but with 30% less fat, more fibre and is loaded with vitamin E.
Taro is native to South East Asia and is now widely used in much of Hawaiian and Latino cooking. So it’s easy enough to get them at the store.
On a side note, make sure you always cook taro before eating, as raw taro roots are toxic.
3. Sweet Potato Chips

With a name like that, you must be thinking, ‘how is it better than potato chips?’
That’s because sweet potato chips contain no artificial additives. On top of that, sweet potatoes are packed with vitamin A, manganese and are low in fat. They’re also surprisingly tasty and crunchy, making it a good substitute.
If you're looking for something healthier though, make your own! They're going to be THAT much better looking, taste better and allow you to feel far less guilty.
4. Kale Chips

Kale may seem like a hoi paloi ingredient, but it’s really just cabbage. When baked right, kale is better than potato chips – it’s delicate, salty and packed with flavor. It’s also filled with vitamin A and C.
5. Plaintain Chips

You’re probably shocked that plaintain chips are any better than potato chips. Well in a sense, you’re right.
Store bought plaintain chips have just as much oil, sodium and additives as potato chips. However, if you make them at home, you can control how much oil you use and add in more spices to boost up the flavor.
