Are you a PlayStation or an Xbox fan? With games nowadays being released concurrently on both platforms, it’s hard to decide which console is better. In the end, it actually boils down to personal preference instead of any hardware perks. With such close competition, it’s only natural that both the PlayStation and Xbox will have a next-gen console released around the same time.
Here are some of the most important rumours about the Xbox 720 and the PlayStation 4.
Graphics
Nifty, huh? It's also fanmade, so don’t get your hopes up.
The PlayStation 4 is likely going to feature a top-of-the-line graphics card that can do full HD (1080p) at 120 frames per second. Considering that PlayStation 3 users were already complaining about frame rate while playing Skyrim (a heavily textured game), this might actually be a much-needed upgrade instead of a next-gen improvement.
However the Xbox 720 is rumoured to be “a beast of a machine”, according to AMD. The console will apparently be capable of graphics similar to those seen in James Cameron’s Avatar, and will feature improved artificial intelligence and physics capabilities.
Verdict: Looks like this one goes to the XboX.
Controls
No... you're not getting this monster.
Controls can make or break your choice of console. Some players just can’t live without the PlayStation’s sleek gamepad, while others prefer the solid bulk of the Xbox’s. However gamepads may soon be a thing of the past. The Xbox 720 is likely to rely on gesture control, aka the Kinect. The Kinect is currently the world’s “fastest selling consumer electronics device”, with sales that have topped 10 million.
The PlayStation 4 is likely to use the same input methods, with their own technology. In fact, when it comes down to it, they might even outdo the Kinect. Back in 2010, industry experts predicted that the Kinect would sell at least 2.5 million more units than the PlayStation Move would. Sony, of course, proved them wrong, with the Move having a “flawless control” and a “wide range of diverse game offerings available right from launch”.

Release Date
Yes, we get it... It's going to take a while.
The bit everyone’s been waiting for. The release!
According to rumours, it looks like the PlayStation 4 will be first on the scene. Ps4playstation4.com explains it thus:
“The PlayStation 1 was first released in late 1994 in Japan and 1995 throughout the rest of the world. The PlayStation 2 hit stores in 2000, giving the PS1 a retail shelf life of 6 years from its Japanese launch. Likewise, the PlayStation 3 came out in 2006, 6 years after the release of the PS2. Following this trend that Sony has established would give us a late 2012 release for the PS4.”
In the meantime, most industry insiders are pegging the Xbox 720 to be released only in 2014, or even later. However, Microsoft isn’t going to be outdone by Sony. It’s been said that the successor to the Xbox 360 could be showcased as early as this year, at E3 2012.
Nonetheless, these are all just rumours, so keep your eyes peeled for when the facts start showing up!
