The iPhone has reigned supreme in Singapore ever since its inception. In 2010 alone, 8.33% of our population owned an iPhone. While no new studies have been made, one can be sure that that percentage has skyrocketed since the introduction of the newer iPhone models.
However Apple – like Nokia – may soon be toppled from its throne in the smartphone market.
Samsung and the Android OS look set to take over the iconic iOS’s perch, with the Galaxy Note.
Where phone-makers once raced to shrink their products to the slimmest, sexiest slips possible, they are now embracing being big and beautiful. The Note runs 5.3 inches large, compared to the much smaller, 3.5 inch iPhone display.
The Note’s large screen promises users minimal use of scrolling and screen transitions. But here’s where the Note might just falter against the iPhone. It actually gets pretty fun pinching and flicking your iPhone screen.

The iPhone’s small stature also helps keep it safe. Nothing screams ‘pick my pocket!’ more than a sleek new phone sticking out of your jeans.
But big really is beautiful sometimes – with so much space to play around in, the Note has an inbuilt app for doodling all over your photos, something the iPhone can only do with the help of a third party programme. For your convenience, the Note also comes equipped with a stylus that slots nicely into its bottom.
In spite of that, the stylus may not actually be a plus point. While it will be a hit with the purikura addicts, it does give you one more thing to worry about losing when on the go. On the other hand, styluses are great for those with larger fingers or palmar hyperhidrosis.
However one would do well to remember that the biggest fight between the Galaxy Note and the iPhone is not even about the hardware.
Android fans will undoubtedly get the Galaxy Note, while the iOS addicts will continue waiting for the iPhone 5.
It all boils down to which camp you prefer: do you want a smooth, unadulterated, handheld experience, or would you rather brave the open marketplace, to try and test apps to your heart’s desire?
The greatest hardware in the world cannot change an OS you dislike, so keep that in mind!
